Three Shaw Facilities Get 'Zero-Landfill' Status
Dalton, GA, Jan. 22, 2010--Three Shaw Industries facilities, including two in California and one in South Carolina, have earned "zero-landfill" status, the company said.
The facilities include two Tuftex carpet manufacturing plants in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. and a fiber extrusion facility in Clemson, S.C.
Each facility achieved the status by redirecting waste otherwise intended for landfills through alternative channels of recycling and reuse.
Shaw's goal is to reduce its overall waste to landfill by 90 percent by the end of 2011, with the ultimate goal zero waste to landfill for the entire company, according to Rick Ramirez, vice president of sustainability.
Achieving zero landfill status for the Tuftex plants was an initiative designed also to support a regional zero landfill initiative.
With the largest local landfill in Puente Hills slated for closure in 2013, Shaw is helping the city of Santa Fe Springs meet its waste-diversion goals.
