Shaw Recalls Carpet

Dalton, GA, May. 10--Shaw Industries in Dalton, GA Friday recalled 125 pieces of its Tuftex Wall-to-Wall carpet because it could be a fire hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, D.C. said the hazard results from a manufacturing error which over-treated the carpet with a "soil-resist" application. The commission said the carpet could readily ignite, presenting a serious risk of burn injuries. The recalled carpet violates the federal Flammable Fabrics Act. No incident or injuries have been reported thus far, the commission said. The recalled wall-to-wall carpet was manufactured in two different styles called "Moon Shadow" and "Chic to Chic," both of which are 100 percent nylon fluffy shag. Shaw Industries said it has corrected the manufacturing error and will replace the recalled carpet with the same or comparable carpet.
