Shaw Participates in 'Home of the Year'

Dalton, GA, March 27, 2006--Shaw is participating in the “2006 Home of the Year,” a 5572-square-foot log house being built in conjunction with Country’s Best Log Homes magazine and Golden Eagle Log Homes. The home is located on a 2.1-acre lot on Lake Petenwell, Wisconsin, a 1½-hour drive northwest of Madison. In September of 2004, Golden Eagle Log Homes and Country’s Best Log Homes teamed up to design and construct the home, with the magazine planning to write a series of articles in its national, semi-monthly publication. The project partners believed the venture would serve as a means of educating the magazine’s readers on the design and construction process of a log home, from start to finish. Property was purchased on Lake Petenwell, a 22,000-acre lake popular for its many recreational opportunities. The Golden Eagle Log Homes design team then set out to create a home that would complement its natural surroundings. The progress of the construction can be viewed at www.showcaseloghomes.com. The site was created to offer an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the construction of a modern day log home, from breaking ground to completion. Companies involved with the project have contributed information to the website. In addition to details on construction, topics such as financing, heating and cooling options, appliances, and decorating are discussed. When completed this spring, the house will be open to the public, and used for fund-raising to benefit the University of Wisconsin Children’s Hospital of Madison. The hospital is a not-for-profit center that cares for newborns to young adults. Located within UW Hospital and Clinics, UW Children's Hospital is a complete children's medical and surgical center with a pediatric intensive care unit, an internationally recognized transplant surgery program, a children's cancer center, and a family-friendly atmosphere. “It’s for the kids,” say Jay and Tod Parmeter, owners of Golden Eagle Log Homes. “We are excited about the opportunity to use this showcase home to benefit the UW Children’s Hospital.” A series of events is planned around the opening, including private VIP parties and public open-house tours. All admission fees will be given to the Children’s Hospital. Two Shaw Hard Surface porcelain tile styles, Pantheon and Baja, were used extensively in the log home, with more than 2000 square feet of the two products installed. Nearly 500 square feet of Old Hickory II, a Shaw hardwood product, was also used. Old Hickory II is 3" x 3/4" solid plank flooring featuring the company’s DuraShield finish. More than 400 square yards of carpet, including Shaw’s Soft Impressions, Artistry, and Ever Yours were installed in the home. The home and products involved will be promoted nationally to newspapers, trade publications, and consumer shelter publications. Shaw supplied all of the flooring for the 'Home of the Year'.
