Shaw Intros No Pull/No Run/No Edge Ravel Warranty
Dalton, GA, January 24, 2006--Shaw Industries has announced the introduction of a new no run/no pull/no edge ravel warranty on all of its styles backed with SoftBac® Platinum. The new warranty will be in addition to the current No-Wrinkle Guarantee on all SoftBac products. As with the No-Wrinkle Guarantee, the no pull/no run/no edge ravel warranty will be seven years for Shaw’s 4-Star products and ten years for 5-Star styles. Since SoftBac was introduced by the company almost eight years ago, the patented backing system has continued to grow in popularity. Sales of products featuring SoftBac have now reached almost 500 million yards since its inception. Many Shaw retailers report that 50% or more of their retail sales are of SoftBac products. The new warranty promises that any Shaw carpet backed with SoftBac will not pull and run, a condition often called zippering, or edge ravel for the seven- or ten-year coverage period. Zippering is defined as the condition in which carpet loops pull loose from the surface, much like a run in a pair of hose. Edge ravel occurs when tufts pull loose at carpet seams. Seam sealer must be used to validate the edge ravel warranty. “SoftBac provides a denser, more dimensionally stable design that makes carpet softer underfoot, more beautiful, and built to stay that way,” says Scott Sandlin, Shaw vice president of marketing. “And with a no-wrinkle guarantee to support our performance claims, it’s really no surprise that sales have continued to grow so dramatically.” Sandlin notes that SoftBac products provide stronger adhesion and greater seam inegrity than conventional backings offer, and the decision to create the new warranty was overdue. “We’ve known how good this backing is for years, and we decided to give our SoftBac customers an added competitive advantage with this new warranty. We wanted to ensure that our customers know that selling loop-pile carpets with SoftBac provide the most hassle-free installation for their customers and, therefore, greater profit opportunities.” “It’s now been more than seven years since Shaw developed SoftBac with SI Flooring Systems,” says Sandlin. “We have a solid track record with the product and know how well it performs. The growth of our SoftBac styles has been exceptional, and we believe the percentage of sales these products represent will continue to climb. Retailers and installation professionals nationwide continue to tell us the success stories of their SoftBac sales.”
