Shaw Closing Dalton Residential Carpet Plant
Dalton, GA, Oct. 10, 2011 -- Shaw Industries Group said it will close Plant 20, a residential carpet manufacturing facility in Dalton.
The company said the closure is being made to increase efficiency and doesn't reflect lower demand.
Production equipment will be moved to other Shaw carpet manufacturing plants, which Shaw said will provide a more balanced production flow, as well as improved work schedules and other efficiencies.
Evans & Black opened the plant in 1965. Shaw purchased the plant along with the other E&B plants in 1989. It produces residential carpet and has equipment to handle everything from tufting to dyeing.
Approximately 270 employees will be affected by the closing, Shaw said.
Industry-wide, residential carpet sales flattened last year but are down about 4% this year.
