Armstrong Launches VapArrest’s Moisture Retardant

Lancaster, PA, February 13, 2006--Armstrong Flooring announces the launch of VapArrest Professional Moisture Retardant System, the result of five years’ testing and analysis. VapArrest can reduce vapor transmission from leveling compounds and concrete subfloors up to 75% with vapor transmissions as high as 12 lb./1000 sq. ft./24 hr. in a single coat, making it the most effective single coat system available. Moisture from the environment can not only lead to mold and mildew later on, but in extreme cases can prevent the flooring adhesive from bonding to the subfloor properly, creating hollow spots and buckling. “There were other moisture retardant products on the market, but we wanted to offer one that was not only effective, but only required one coat. When you’re dealing with flooring installation, it’s never too soon to start keeping moisture out,” says Sean B. Strine, product manager, Installation, Maintenance, & Accessory Products. VapArrest is easily applied with a roller, spreading at 270 sq.ft./gal., and has a cure time of 12-16 hours. No special subfloor preparation is necessary but it can be used over cementitious leveling compounds if necessary. VapArrest is VOC free and freeze/thaw stable to 10? (-12? C). Armstrong VapArrest is recommended when installing Bruce, Armstrong Hardwood Flooring by Hartco, and Robbins engineered hardwood flooring, and is specifically formulated to work with Bruce® Equalizer, Hartco 57 and Robbins Fusionlock urethane adhesives. If used as directed in combination with these products, VapArrest comes with a lifetime subfloor moisture protection warranty for both commercial and residential applications. Available in three convenient sizes: 2.2 gallon (net) mixed, 1.1 gallon (net) mixed and 1 quart (net) mixed, each comes with a handy film thickness gauge to ensure you’re applying just the right amount of recommended 6 mil protection. Adds Strine, “[VapArrest] is targeted for professional installers due to their needs and knowledge relative to moisture control and wood flooring installations, but because the use of VapArrest is so easy it can be handled by DIY'ers.”
