Anderson Wins Pinchot Sustainability Award

Dalton, GA, July 23, 2010--Anderson Hardwood Floors, a member of Shaw Industries Group, said it was selected for the Gifford Pinchot Award for outstanding contributions of employees toward advancing conservation interpretation and education, while caring for the land and serving people.

The award, given by the Hardwood Forestry Fund, was presented at the Carpet One/Flooring America Summer Convention held in Houston, Texas on July 22.

The Gifford Pinchot Award is not an annual award and is only presented when a manufacturer or individual has achieved the distinction of contributing significant corporate achievements in promoting sustainable forestry.

“Anderson is honored to receive the prestigious Gifford Pichot Award for our education, leadership and commitment to sustainable forestry,” said Anderson CEO and President Don Finkell.

“Anderson is committed to not only the quality of the products we offer, but to the preservation of where they come from. This award is testament to our commitment.”

The award honors a forest products company that has demonstrated commitment to the environment and “generation after generation of men and trees” through tree planting, sustainable forest conservation and environmental education.

Located in Reston, Virginia, the Forestry Fund is a foundation that establishes sustainable forests for future generations' natural resource needs.

The Award is named after Gifford Pinchot, who was selected by Theodore Roosevelt to establish the U. S. Forest Service, and hired by landscape architect Fredrick Laws Olmstead to restore the forests on the Biltmore Estate.

Anderson CEO Don Finkell leads industry education on the Lacey Act and sustainable forestry. Anderson products meet Greenguard Environmental Institute’s stringent air quality standards. Additionally, Anderson produces hardwoods that are Greenguard Air Quality Certified and Cradle to Cradle Silver Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC).
