WONZ to Provide Wool Research Technology to India

Sydney, Australia, May 28--New Zealand will provide wool research technology to India under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology and Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand. The MU was signed by India's Minister for Textiles Kanshi Ram Rana in Christchurch during his just concluded four-day official visit to the country. The WRONZ has a long-established reputation as a global supplier of wool and fiber processing technology and innovation and under the MU, Indian students will be coming to New Zealand to learn the wool technology. "We import raw wool, which is then processed and exported as woollen garments. The Indian wool industry has a wide range from top of the line units matching international standards to low grade, less capital-intensive industries. With adequate technological support for the latter, we can produce value added garments and carpets for export", Rana said. The Indian minister had wide ranging discussions with New Zealand Minister for Trade Negotiations Jim Sutton on enhancing Indian exports and imports to and from New Zealand. The current trade between the two countries stands at NZ$192 million (US$112.28 million) and the Indian minister is confident to increase it to the value of NZ$500 million in the next two years.
