Winners of Vision Design Contest Announced
Chattanooga, TN, April 6, 2011 -- Floor Focus has named the winners of its second annual Vision Awards, which celebrate the dynamic integration of flooring and architecture.
The Vision Awards featured five competition categories—corporate, healthcare, education, retail and hospitality—and yielded an abundance of quality entries in all segments. Floor Focus partnered with industry design leaders Bentley Prince Street, Crossville, Centiva and Johnsonite in sponsoring the competition.
The grand prize was given to JPC Architects for design of its corporate office in Bellevue, Washington.
URS Corporation won the healthcare category for the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. Michigan.
In the education category, Slaterpaull Architects took the prize for its High Point Academy Charter School project in Aurora, Colorado.
Ruscio Studio Inc.’s design of Magico Imperial was honored in the retail category, and the nemaworkshop joined the winners’ circle in the category of hospitality for d’espresso in New York, New York.
Key to the contest is the idea that any project can be entered, regardless of the materials used; therefore, all product names were removed from the entries, and the judges—Shashi Caan of the Shashi Caan Collective, Gabriel Zavala of 3/d3 Studio, LLC. and Juliette Bowker of Perkins + Will—collaborated to choose the winners based solely on the design of the project.
Honorable mentions were awarded in each category as well.
In corporate, HOK of New York City was acknowledged for the design of its corporate office; in healthcare, TRO Jung-Brannen received mention for its Newton Wellesley Hospital West Lobby renovation.
Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, LTD. was awarded the honorable mention in the education category for its Louisville Free Public Library Newburg Branch in Louisville, Kentucky.
MSA Architects earned acknowledgement for Yagoot in Cincinnati, Ohio in the retail category and also won recognition for Cincinnati’s Fox Sports Ohio Champions Club in the hospitality category.
Floor Focus will begin accepting submissions for the 2012 Vision Awards in January.
The contest offers cash prizes for category winners. Details can be found at www.floorfocus.com/designaward.
