Wholesale Prices Edge Higher in January

Washington, DC, Feb. 16, 2012 --  U.S. wholesale prices rose modestly in January, according to the Labor Department.

The producer price index rose a seasonally adjusted 0.1% for finished goods in January from December, the government said.

However, core producer prices--removing food and energy--were up 0.4%, the largest monthly rise since July.

Economists had forecast overall wholesale prices would climb 0.4% on a month-to-month basis, while core producer prices were expected to rise by 0.2%.
