Wholesale Inventories Off in July

Washington, DC, September 8--Inventories at wholesalers fell 0.1% in July, according to the Commerce Department. The decline was well below economists' expectations there had forecast an increase of 0.5% during the month. Sales at wholesalers were up grew by 0.5%, led by a 7.6% increase in petroleum sales. The inventory-to-sales ratio dropped slightly to 1.18 after hitting 1.19 in June.
