White House Tightens Rhetoric with China on Tariffs

Washington, DC, December 5, 2018--President Trump has named U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer as lead negotiator in the U.S.’s talks with China on trade.

Lighthizer has long held a critical view of China and is known as a hard-nosed negotiator, reports Business Insider, so his appointment may signal administration’s positioning.

The U.S. and China formed a truce, effective December 1, agreeing that they would not add additional tariffs for 90 days and would strive to reach an understanding on trade in that time.
