WFCA Retail Members' Sales Mixed For 1st Quarter
Anaheim, CA, June 11, 2007--Despite a significant fall off in builder sales in the first quarter, about 40% of the respondents to a World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) member survey reported residential sales were up last quarter, about 40% reported those sales were down and the balance reported no change. Almost half of respondents (46%) noted commercial sales were up, 18% reported them down and 29% reported commercial sales as flat. The best product category in sales volume was overwhelmingly broadloom carpet (65%) followed by hardwood (17%).
“We feel it important our members know how they are doing in comparison with the entire marketplace,“ said D. Christopher Davis, WFCA President & CEO, “and as expected, results varied significantly from region to region of the country. Where the local economy is strong, so are floor covering sales, and unfortunately, where local economies are weak, floor covering sales are, too.”
This is the first of a series of quarterly “snapshots” of the marketplace now being conducted by the WFCA exclusively for its membership.
The quarterly surveys are being conducted online with a cross-section of the WFCA’s membership by the Bowe Company.
