Las Vegas, NV, Feb. 12—The World Floor Covering Association’s National Installation Contest took place at Surfaces at the end of January. Winners in the carpet division were: 1st place, Robert Varden of Advanced Flooring Technology in Novato, California; 2nd place, Jim Rank of Flooring Solutions in Raymore, Missouri. Winners in the resilient division were: 1st place, David Rowdon of Painter’s District Council #5 in Vancouver, Washington; 2nd place, Scott Sager of L&E Flooring in La Plata, Maryland.
First place winners in both divisions received a cash award of $1,000, along with tools and supplies donated by industry manufacturers. Second place winners received a $500 cash award as well as tools and floorcovering accessories.
The competition took place between 20 regional finalists who were given a written test, a hands-on repair project and detailed work orders to complete a floor installation within a specified time frame, and judged by a panel of experts.
