Weekly Jobless Claims Fall to 400,000

Washington, D.C., July 29, 2021-According to the Labor Department, U.S. jobless claims fell last week by 24,000 to 400,000, another sign of the improving job market in the wake of the Covid-driven recession.

The latest numbers reflect the trend so far this year of steadily falling job applications. The 2021 high of 904,000 came in early January.

The biggest declines in claims came from Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas, while the biggest increases came from California, Nevada and Tennessee.
