Washington, DC, April 5, 2007--Initial jobless claims rose by 11,000 for the week ending March 31, to 321,000, according to a Labor Department report. Claims for the week hit their highest level since March 3.
The four week average of new claims fell by 1,500 to 315,750, the lowest since February 3.
The number of people collecting unemployment was down by 25,000 to 2.49 million in the week ended March 24. It's the lowest since January 27.
