Weekly Chain Store Sales Up vs. Last Year

New York, NY, February 13, 2007--Chain store sales for the week ended Feb. 10 rose 3.9% compared to the year-ago period, according to a survey released on Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers Inc. and UBS Securities.

On a week-over-week basis, sales slipped 0.8%. "A blast of cold winter weather, especially in the West, curbed the consumers' appetite for spring merchandise," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist.

For February, ICSC expects industry chain-store sales to increase by about 3%.
