Weekly Chain Store Sales Up 2.6% Vs. 2005

New York, NY, November 28, 2006--Chain store sales for the week ended Nov. 25 rose 2.6% compared to the year-ago period, according to a survey released by the International Council of Shopping Centers, Inc. and UBS Securities LLC. This was the strongest year-over-year increase since the week of Oct. 21. On a week-over-week basis sales slipped 0.4%. "This past week, sales came in as expected -- slow for the first half and with a bang at the end of the week as a result of retailers' Black Friday promotions," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist. For the month of November, ICSC expects sales to grow by about 2.5%. Most retailers will report monthly sales on Nov. 30.
