Weekly Chain Store Sales Off

New York, NY, November 14, 2006--Chain store retail sales slipped in the latest week with a mixed performance regionally, a retail report said on Tuesday. Sales declined 0.8 percent in the week ended Nov. 11, compared with a 1.0 percent rise the previous week, the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities said in a joint report. Compared with the same week a year ago, sales rose 2.1 percent after a 2.3 percent year-earlier advance in the prior week. Consumer demand was strong in the West, but soft in the Northeast as retailers started their advertising campaigns for the holiday season, the report said.
