Weekly Chain Store Sales Off

New York, NY, October 31, 2006--Chain store sales slipped 0.2% slipped 0.2% for the week ended Oct. 28, on a week-over-week basis, according to a survey released on Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities LLC. Chain store sales rose 2.3%, compared to the year-ago period. "Weather and fashion drove sales for the month helping to offset some weakness in the discount sector during October," Michael Niemira, ICSC chief economist said. For the month, ICSC expects overall chain store sales to rise by 3% on a year-over-year basis. Most retailers will report monthly same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least one year, on Thursday.
