Virginia Retailer Fatally Shot

Goochland County, VA, July 19--Jason Carr, the manager of Stone Mountain Carpet Mill Outlet in Goochland County, got to the store before installers arrived. But yesterday he didn't get a chance to open the store's doors before he was fatally shot, according to the Goochland Sheriff's Office. Carr was found outside the store's delivery area by a routine installer, who knew him well. The store is located off of Broad Street in a quiet area less than 5 miles from Short Pump Town Center. Sheriff's office officials released few details about the crime, but they did say no immediate arrests had been made. Authorities said Carr, 27, lived on Parkwood Drive in Aylett. He is survived by his wife, said store owner Brian Dillistin. "They were high school sweethearts," Dillistin said. He added the couple had been married about six years and had no children. Carr was transported to VCU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Carr was shot multiple times in the back, Dillistin said. Dillistin said Carr's wallet was not taken and that the store keys were left beside Carr's body. Dillistin described Carr as an asset to the company. "He had very much to do with the success of Stone Mountain," Dillistin said. "He was like a son I didn't have." Carr began at the store four years ago as a salesman, and he advanced to become store manager. The store was closed yesterday in memory of Carr. It reopens today at 9 a.m.
