Viam To Build Tennessee PET Fiber Plant
Manchester, TN, March 10, 2011 -- Fiber manufacturer Viam Manufacturing Inc. said it will invest $32 million in a Manchester plant that will recycle plastic bottles into carpet fiber to be used in automobile applications, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
The plant, scheduled to open next year, will produce polyethylene terephthalate (PET) stable carpet fiber by recycling PET clear bottles.
The fiber will be used in headliners seat backs and door panels in the automotive industry, according to a news release.
Expansion plans include supplying PET stable carpet fiber for use in automotive floor mats.
The plant’s 12-acre site will house a 44,000 square foot facility with the capability for a future expansion of 120,000 square feet.
