Vaughn of Akona Named 2006 NTCA Tile Person of the
Jackson, MS, October 6, 2006--Tom Vaughn of Akona LLC received the 2006 NTCA Tile Person of the Year award during the association’s awards banquet at its Total Solutions conference at the Las Vegas Hilton.
The award recognizes the recipient’s contributions to the ceramic tile, stone and allied products industry during a long and distinguished career as well as the recipient’s efforts and commitments to the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) in keeping with the association’s purpose, programs and goals.
Vaughn’s distinguished career includes the development of Max Bond construction and paneling adhesive for HB Fuller Corporation, and positions for HB Fuller as product line manager and technical director. He worked as general manager for MAPEI Corporation and general manager for Minnesota Tile, the Minneapolis-based distributor. In 1994, Vaughn started his own company as a C-Cure manufacturer affiliate and has furthered his C-Cure affiliate producer status as owner of Construction Technology and Akona LLC.
He became involved with NTCA in the late 70’s through the influence of Bob Moore at HB Fuller. He’s served on the NTCA technical committee for over 25 years and has conducted numerous training schools in Minneapolis and the Midwest, specifically educating the region on the cementitious self-leveling underlayment method.
“The NTCA has always been a special association to me because of its emphasis on education,” Vaughn said. “The tile industry has experienced great growth since I started and the role the NTCA plays to educate the industry are crucial to the industry’s future growth.”
Vaughn lives in Maple Grove, Minn., with his wife Maureen. Maureen, his daughter Kathy and mother June attended the award presentation, which was kept a surprise until the evening of the event.
