Vajpayee to Inaugurate World Conference on Handmad
New Delhi, India, Oct 27--(PTI) Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will inaugurate the first World conference on hand made carpets beginning November 4.
"The Prime Minister has given his consent for inaugurating this conference which will see participation from 25 carpet importing and exporting countries including Pakistan," Textiles Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here on Friday.
He said the conference, which will focus on trade issues, social accountability and building resistance to a takeover by technologically driven modern industries, is expected to receive over 500 delegates from around the world.
The two-day conference will work towards building an action-oriented progressive plan for developing trade capacities to achieve collective growth of over 10 percent, he said, after receiving a dividend check of 4.27 million rupees from National Handloom Development Corporation.
