USGBC Chapter Awards Share Green Building Success
Washington, DC, August 15, 2006--All green building is local and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is giving its chapters the chance to share their local success stories with the world. The award program, sponsored by Milliken Contract, is an opportunity for chapters to be recognized among the green building community at Member Day during USGBC’s annual Greenbuild Conference in Denver, CO this November. Nominations are due September 15, 2006. "Around the world, Milliken is committed to sustainable excellence," said Bill Gregory, director of sustainable strategies for Milliken Floor Covering. "With USGBC's exploding expansion, sharing best practices is beneficial to both established chapters and incoming leaders." Past chapter award recipients include the Cascadia, St. Louis, Redwood Empire, Baltimore, Delaware Valley, Colorado, and the Northern California chapters. The Cascadia Chapter, which is comprised of Vancouver, Seattle and Portland branches, boasts the distinction of being one of two original chapters of USGBC and a two-time award recipient. In 2002, Cascadia formed the nation’s first LEED Users Group in 2002, hosted the 2004 Greenbuild in Portland with over 8000 attendees and helped pass legislation in Washington requiring LEED Silver for all state funded buildings in 2005. The Delaware Valley Chapter has successfully worked with the Philadelphia School District to promote environmentally responsible school buildings, resulting in a new school becoming LEED certified. The St. Louis chapter has shown similar leadership. The chapter’s 2004 goal--to have 20 LEED registered and/or certified buildings in the region by 2006--had 15 projects by mid-October 2004. Chapters can nominate themselves for no more than three categories. Nominations for the Chapter Awards are accepted for each of the following categories: Advocacy and Influence, LEED, Education, Research, USGBC as a Community and Organizational Excellence as defined by the USGBC Strategic Plan. Only complete entries will be accepted for this prestigious recognition. The winning chapters will be recognized at Member Day during the 2006 Greenbuild Conference. All nominees will have their submission included in 2006 Chapter Best Practices. For more information and nomination forms email: chapters@usgbc.org.
