U.S. Hardwood Exports To China Fall
Shanghai, China, April 8, 2009--The hardwood market in China may remain weak this year due to the global financial crisis, according to the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), which represents over 100 U.S. hardwood exporters, the Shanghai Daily reported,
In 2008, the value of AHEC members' hardwood exports to China dropped 15% from one year earlier.
This year will be a tough year for the market, said Michael Snow, executive director of AHEC, adding that a turnaround is likely to appear next year.
U.S. lumber exported to China increased 73% in January from one month earlier. However, exports to China are still 6% lower than in the previous year.
