Unilin Job Creation Agreement Amended in NC

Thomasville, NC, Dec. 22, 2009--Thomasville City Council has amended an economic job creation incentive contract with Unilin Flooring, which the company said it could not meet due to the weak housing market.

When Unilin opened in 2004, Thomasville agreed to give back some of the taxes paid by the company as a form of incentive. In exchange, Unilin agreed to create 400 new jobs.

The recession hurt the housing industry, which resulted in decreased profit for the flooring manufacturer. Earlier this fall, company representatives approached the Thomasville City Council with a request that the job creation requirement be dropped since it did not have the funds to generate a total of 400 jobs.
