Unilin Flooring Recruitment and Construction on Tr

Thomasville, NC, April 5--Quick•Step laminate flooring manufacturer Unilin Flooring has hired over 74 workers since March 2004, surpassing its recruitment goals through June 2005, according to the company. "We have had a great deal of success with our job advertising methods so far," said Nick Atkins, staffing coordinator with Unilin. "This week we had over 30 applications for machine operator positions posted on the quickstep.com career site in a single day." The company said it is attracting valuable employees from the surrounding workforce to staff its state-of-the-art production and distribution facility in Thomasville, North Carolina. "Staffing a facility of this magnitude is an ongoing process, which is why we are remaining consistent in our efforts to recruit employees," said Phil Simmons, human resources director for Unilin. "We will have no trouble attracting the first 100 new employees by the end of this year." Having set out with an aggressive construction schedule in 2004 and despite inclement weather early on, Unilin is still very close to its original schedule. The press building will begin operations in May and the remaining operations will come on line through July 2005. Once the manufacturing facility is operational, Unilin will realize its strategy of becoming the first fully integrated producer of laminate flooring in the U.S., which means that each component – from the underlay to the top layer of the floor – is designed, manufactured and assembled in-house to work perfectly together as one system.
