Unilin Facility Wins North Carolina Safety Award
Dallas, TX, June 26, 2009 – Unilin Flooring, the maker of Mohawk, Quick-Step, and Columbia Flooring laminate brands, has been recognized as a recipient of the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) Award by North Carolina’s Department of Labor, for the second year in a row.
Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry presented company officials at Unilin’s Thomasville, N.C. facility with the SHARP certificate in a ceremony recognizing the company’s development and maintenance of strong safety programs for its workers.
“For our facility to celebrate both renewal of our SHARP award and an entire year without a lost time accident is quite an accomplishment,” said Randy Smith, vice president of operations, Unilin Flooring, a Mohawk Industries company.
For companies to qualify for the SHARP Award program, injury and illness rates for the site must be below the national average for the industry, and NCDOL safety and health consultants must complete an assessment of the workplace. The 600,000 square foot Unilin facility employing more than 200 people that received the honor was the first fully integrated laminate manufacturing site in the U. S.
The site now serves as the North American headquarters for Unilin.
