Uniboard Canada Rolls Out CHEP Pallet Program

Laval, Quebec, June 27, 2006--The Flooring Business Unit of Uniboard Canada, one of the largest North American manufacturers of laminate flooring products, has joined the CHEP pallet pooling program. Boxes of finished laminate flooring are now being transported to retailers and distributors in Canada and the United States from the company's facility in Laval on pallets from CHEP, the global leader in pallet and container pooling solutions. Uniboard Canada previously used one-way pallets to transport their flooring products, but experienced annual increases in the cost for pallets and faced frequent customer service issues. The CHEP pooling system is proving more cost effective than purchasing one-way pallets, and the strength of CHEP pallets is providing another advantage, which is critical because a unit load of flooring is about 2,100 lbs (953 kg). "We're using CHEP pallets because they're preferred by many of our customers. Also, the CHEP sales and customer service team has been very responsive to our needs. CHEP is a great partner," said Luc Richer, senior buyer, flooring business unit, Uniboard Canada. Uniboard Canada recently doubled its production capacity and most of that additional volume will be shipped to customers on CHEP. In combination with the company's effort to encourage its raw material suppliers to move to CHEP, Richer expects to save even more money. "We are happy to see Uniboard experiencing such positive benefit from the use of our solutions, and believe even greater supply chain efficiencies will be seen in the future. CHEP will continue to develop solutions that will help companies in the building materials industry become even more productive," said Jason Adlam, director, sales and customer service, CHEP Canada.
