Bradford, UK, Aug. 21--Carpet International, the UK’s largest carpet manufacturer which has 1,200 employees – has gone into administrative receivership.
But last night the Carpet Foundation at Kidderminster claimed there was a strong likelihood the company with a turnover of £120 million would survive and a buyer would be found.
Carpet International, based in Bradford, supplies carpets at the “budget products” end of the market and its customers are high street and household name carpet selling businesses.
Mike Hardiman, chief executive of the Carpet Foundation, said Carpet International was a leading financial partner of the Foundation through its sales.
Hardiman said, “It is a colossal company making masses of carpet but there has been some thought whether it would pull through the trade’s present doldrums. We are confident it will survive.
“The company makes excellent products and has a good relationship with the retail trade but what has happened may also be the consequences of successive restructurings.
“There must be a good chance a buyer will be found.”
The company also has a production plant in Ireland and a modern dispatch and stockholding operation at Hull.
