UK's Topps Tiles Warns of Sales Declines

Cheshire, England, March 23--Topps Tiles has joined the ranks of retailers suffering in the current UK consumer downturn, warning that like-for-like sales have fallen over recent weeks, according to the Retail Bulletin. The Retail Bulletin reported that UK's biggest ceramic tile and wood flooring specialist said that "in the last four weeks we have experienced very tough trading with like-for-like sales for these four weeks alone running at between 2-3 per cent below the same period last year." The company said that overall turnover for the 26 weeks to April 2 2005 is expected to be in line with forecasts, in the region of £87m, with like-for-like sales across the half expected to increase by 8 per cent. Operational profit before tax is expected to be approximately £19.5m.
