U.K. Yarn Plant Closes

County Cork, UK, Nov. 21--The doors are set to close on Friday at a County Down yarn firm with the loss of nearly 200 jobs. The entire workforce of 189 people is being made redundant at Saintfield Yarns, which makes yarns for UK carpet manufacturers. On Thursday, the company said it had been forced to close because of the withdrawal of credit insurance from a leading supplier, which had guaranteed that bills were paid. That meant the company was left in a position where it had to pay cash for materials and it did not have the money to keep trading.
