UK Program Honors Top Vinyl Recyclers
London, England, Feb. 23, 2011 -- Three flooring companies have received Gold Certificates in the first-ever Recofloor Awards for recycling the most waste vinyl flooring in 2010 in the UK.
Members of the UK’s first vinyl flooring recycling program collected more than 200 tons of material last year – easily surpassing the 175 tons target. The 2010 total also represents a 33% increase on the 150 tons recycled in 2009.
Gold Award winners scoring more than 50 points were Hull Flooring (77), Ross Hughes Flooring, Caernarfon (65) and Mayfield Flooring, Stockport (64).
Eleven companies scoring 20 points or more collected Silver Certificates - along with two distributors, Kent Flooring and STS Flooring in Orpington which qualified for collecting enough material through their drop-off facilities.
Praised for its ‘extreme commitment’ to Recofloor, Hull Flooring collected 11% of the program's total 2010 tonnage. In addition to its day-to-day collections, the firm helped two large retail outlets recycle their waste flooring from major refurbishment projects at nationwide stores. It also recycles many materials from installation processes, where practicable, such as cardboard, plastics, paper and even empty latex smoothing compound bottles.
Ross Hughes Flooring was singled out for having ‘consistently contributed’ to the program from a wide variety of different projects.
Bronze Certificates were also awarded to smaller companies.
Recofloor’s 265 active members across the UK and Ireland comprise flooring contractors, drop-off sites at flooring distributors and waste transfer stations, as well as construction projects at schools, hospitals and leading retail stores.
