UK Chemical Firm to Distribute Shell’s PDO in Euro

London, UK, May 5--Shell Chemicals Europe BV and Whyte Chemicals Ltd. announced they have formed an agreement in which Whyte will handle distribution of Shell's 1,3 propanediol monomer (PDO) in the European chemicals marketplace. Whyte will add PDO to its portfolio within the Process Chemicals and Intermediates division. "Shell is pleased to be associated with Whyte because it is a competitive source of solvents and a reliable supplier to a wide range of industries," says Frank Schnitzeler, European Commercial Manager PDO/CORTERRA. "Whyte specializes in sourcing products for specific and novel applications, and PDO is a good fit with their portfolio of value-added products." PDO can be formulated into composites, adhesives, laminates, powder and UV-cured coatings, mouldings, novel aliphatic polyesters, co-polyesters, solvents, fine chemical synthesis, anti-freeze and other end uses. It has successfully been used to formulate CORTERRA Polymers, a polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), which is used to make carpet and textile fibers, engineering thermoplastics, films and coatings. Once expensive and laborious to produce, Shell Chemicals commercialised a proprietary process in 1999 that now enables PDO to be cost efficient and competitive with similar compounds. Whyte Chemicals Limited, a subsidiary of Whyte Group Ltd, is a respected chemical distribution company servicing companies worldwide. Its reputation is based on first class service and fast and efficient distribution from a strategically positioned chain of dedicated warehouses, bulk storage facilities and transport fleet.
