UK Carpetmaker Hugh Mackay in Administration

Durham, England, March 22--The firm has made carpets for palaces and leading hotels, but now one of the country's leading carpet makers has put its factory in Durham into administration, according to the BBC. It was reported that about 130 people work at the Hugh Mackay plant on the Meadowfield Industrial Estate. The Monday night shift was contacted at home and told not to go into work and that they were being made redundant with immediate effect. The company has made carpets for Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and ocean liners. The administrators say a rescue plan could mean the manufacture of carpets would stop but a smaller operation would concentrate on carpet design.
