Two New Standards Address Floor Traction
Southlake, TX, May 22, 2012 -- The National Floor Safety Institute has published two new standards regarding slip-and-fall prevention.
The first standard is a new product labeling standard entitled ANSI/NFSI B101.5-2012 and its designed to help consumers decide whether a particular kind of flooring is appropriate for high risk areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.
The new label resembles an automobile gasoline gauge and identifies three traction levels “High-Traction, Moderate-Traction, or Low-Traction”.
The institute said that a growing number of floorcovering makers and retailers are supporting the new labeling system.
The second standard, called ANSI/NFSI B101.3-2012, provides manufacturers a comprehensive approach to quantifying the “Traction” levels of all types of ceramic, porcelain, and polished concrete materials.
In the past the slip resistance qualities of highly polished stone and porcelain materials could not be accurately measured.
The Concrete Polishing Asociation of America has announced its support of the standard.
