Two Industry Vets Buy Montana Dealership

Billings, MT, August 18--Two longtime professionals in the carpet business have purchased NorthWest Floors at Marketplace West in Billings and plan on offering down-home service, according to the Billings, Montana Gazette. Joe Moffet and his nephew, Britt Moffet, worked for Pierce Flooring for three decades apiece. Joe was general manager of the Great Falls store from 1984 until last month. Britt worked in commercial sales in Billings. Joe says he wanted to move back to his hometown about the time NorthWest Floors came up for sale, so he partnered up with Britt. "I wanted to move back to my home. I have a lot of family here, but Pierce didn't have any opportunity for me," Joe says. NorthWest opened three years ago next to Linens 'N Things and was run by three partners, Joe says. "It's been real fun. A lot of challenges, of course." NorthWest, which is affiliated with Mohawk Floorscapes, sells all kinds of floor coverings. The business deal isn't a franchise, but an affiliation. That means the partners use the Mohawk name, but independently own NorthWest Floors. Beside Billings, there are four Mohawk affiliates in Montana: Bozeman, Helena, Missoula and Kalispell. He and Britt want to keep a small-town feel. "We're trying to build a business based on building a relationship with customers and keeping things somewhat quaint and small," he says.
