Tricycle Receives Honors for Sustainability And De

Chattanooga, TN, May 2--Tricycle, Inc. received one regional and two international design awards in the first quarter of this year, and was also nominated for an international award for sustainable design. The company, headquartered in Chattanooga, serves the creative product lifecycle of interiors manufacturers, from product development and sampling to product presentation and marketing. Presenting organizations were The One Club for Art & Copy, the New York Type Directors Club, and the Tennessee chapters of the AIGA. The One Show and the Type Directors Annual are among the most coveted graphic design awards in the world. This is the third year in a row that Tricycle’s in-house design staff has been recognized in these shows. “Our winning designs are representative of Tricycle’s ‘waste-not-want-not’ design ethos,” said Michael Hendrix, Chief Branding Officer. “I am pleased that the judges recognize our creative use of materials. We reuse and reclaim materials in our graphic and environmental design projects as much as possible. Sustainable design is at the core of the Tricycle philosophy.” Over the past three years Tricycle has won awards for its innovative products and services. SIM from Tricycle™, the company’s carpet simulation technology, has been awarded Golds for Sustainable Design and Software Technologies at NeoCon trade fairs. Most recently, SIM was nominated by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) to the 2005 INDEX: awards in Cophenhagen, Denmark, for “design to improve life.” Finalists will be announced in September. “INDEX: is a global competition for design that addresses critical social needs,” says AIGA executive director Ric Grefe. “Each organization can nominate only one project in a country. AIGA, as the arbiter of U.S. projects, forwarded Tricycle’s work on SIM technology as an exemplar of socially responsible design, representing the best of U.S. design.” Tricycle has also received the Creative Excellence award from the International Interior Design Association for environmental design. Tricycle’s creative team designs projects for longevity. Mr. Hendrix explained, “A caveat for our trade show booths is that the furnishings must be able to be re-purposed for our office. Over 50% of Tricycle’s headquarters is outfitted with former exhibit props. It’s both fiscally and socially responsible.” “We are among the new breed of companies promoting sustainable design,“ said Jamie Harrison, Tricycle CEO. “The past century has seen amazing progress, from the Industrial Revolution to the digital age. Digital technology allows us to dematerialize wasteful processes and presents amazing opportunities for effective, sustainable solutions with a minimal use of resources.”
