Tricycle Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Chattanooga, TN, May 25, 2007--Tricycle celebrates its fifth anniversary of incorporation this month. The company launched a transformation of the interiors industry in 2002, with digital product simulation that eliminates wasted time, money and natural resources in the carpet industry. Today, the company's services dematerialize design and manufacturing for architects, interior designers, and manufacturers not only of carpet but also wallcovering and fabric.
"Tricycle's founders came together around similar goals, on two different continents," said co-founder and President Jonathan Bragdon. "Today, from our offices in Chattanooga and Leeds, England, we are bettering economic, social and environmental profitability for the whole industry. In a two year period, users of our programs conserved more than 25,000 gallons of oil and kept more than 150,000 pounds of carpet samples out of America's landfills, as well as creating a positive economic impact of more than $19 million."
Tricycle's environmental leadership was most recently honored with the announcement of a Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award from Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, honoring Tricycle for its innovative leadership in pollution prevention.
"In 5 years, we've seen a lot of change for the good in attitudes and business practices towards sustainability," said Tricycle Chief Technical Officer Andy Shipman. "With ongoing innovation in our products and services we will continue to be a force for that change, ensuring that the progress we've seen becomes permanent."
Earlier this year, Tricycle was also honored with design awards from the Type Director's Club and AIGA Ten Show; the company's anthology of sustainability, REVERB, was called one of the top 100 designs of 2006 by Step Inside Design magazine and selected as a winner in Print magazine's A+C=D Business Graphics Review.
"Tricycle has been focused on sustainability for five years, and we sounded like aliens to most people when we started," said Chief Brand Officer Michael Hendrix. "Today we sound very trendy. Someday the trend will pass, and we will still be doing the same thing."
These awards are the latest in a string of recognitions given to Tricycle in the past two years, including the first-ever Gold IDEA award in Eco-Design from Business Week magazine and the Industrial Designers Society of America; eco-leadership awards from the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Interior Designers, and International Interior Design Association; nomination for a 2006 National Design Award for Corporate Achievement, from the Smithsonian Institution; and Portfolio Company of the Year 2006, from the Community Development Venture Capital Alliance (CDVCA).
