Torlys Launches Laminate Line with Hand-Scraped Lo
Mississauga, Ontario, June 3—Torlys is introducing in Canada the new, unique Steps Eligna Country Surface line that brings the tradition of wood craftsmanship to high-quality laminate flooring. "This unique surface structure emulates hand-made wood floors of centuries past," says John Kocemba, vice president marketing, Torlys Inc. "Country Surface helps décor-oriented consumers create unique living spaces that combine ancient tradition with the ease of modern living. They can create floors that are easy to care for and visually appealing with rich grains and texture." The new Country Surface emulates the look of wood-plank floors that were once hand-scraped by craftsmen. Created with a high-technology printing process, Steps Eligna Country Surface floors have a top wear surface that has undulating layers of differing heights, and different levels of wear. Upper areas are lighter, simulating wear, and deeper areas of the wear layer are darker, simulating less wear on planks. Overall, there is a highly detailed, time-worn look to these floors. Plank edges have structure and are rounded, but not bevelled, also creating the hand-crafted look. Tino Couto, senior product manager, Torlys Inc. adds, "This unparalleled realism is the result of using innovative technologies in the manufacturing process," explains Couto. "For example, the printed décor layer of most laminate floors is printed using a three-colour process. These new Steps Laminate floors are created with a four-colour process for the most lifelike colour and appearance possible. "In Steps Eligna Country Oak floors, for example, some knots are highlighted by matt, deep cracks, as you find in real Oak floors. Steps Eligna Country Wild Maple, has long and short pores in the surface layer, and therefore is not too heavily scraped, emulating the more smooth surface of real Maple." Steps Eligna Country Surface laminate floors are available in Natural Varnished Oak (ST-U1012), Dark Varnished Oak (UF ST-U1013), Wild Maple Natural (ST-U1014), and Wild Maple Amber (ST-U1015). STEPS Eligna Country Surface planks are 5/16” x 6 1/6” x 54 11/32”.
