The HALI Fair Features Carpets, Textiles and Triba

London, England, May 31--The HALI Fair, June 9 to 19, 2005, now features Design•Zone for contemporary carpets and textiles. Consumer demand and new creative energy has driven a market that has developed a powerful new identity in recent years. As well as private individuals, Design•Zone customers include interior designers, UK and international carpet and textile retailers including leading department stores. Design•Zone celebrates an art that is confident with the new and original. Producers from Germany, the USA, Turkey and Iran are working with hot young designers, using the woven surface as a canvas to express vibrant new ideas in keeping with today’s style-conscious interiors. The ‘design’ carpets are increasingly being considered as unique works of art and at The HALI Fair Design•Zone will include some of the most interesting original contemporary carpet and textile designs from around the world. The HALI Fair will also show how certain producers are pushing boundaries and constantly innovating, while others draw upon traditional designs, experimenting in different ways. There is a huge market for modern handwoven high quality carpets and with companies such as Jan Kath and Chuk Palu leading the way, standards have risen and customers are becoming more interested in the differences between machine and handwoven carpets, natural and vegetal-dyed carpets and the widely different qualities of wool seen on the market. The HALI Fair attracts many interior designers and modern carpets are of particular appeal because they have the flexibility of being made within specified price ranges and according to specific sizes and/or colourways, forming part of an overall modern interior design scheme. The select group of dealers who will make up Design•Zone include: - Jan Kath Design, Germany, who uses traditional Tibetan skills and colours to create vibrant, geometric contemporary rugs. Chuk Palu, New York, who create contemporary design carpets in their workshops in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Zagros, London, whose range includes the revival of ancient patterns to unique contemporary designs, decorative and collectables, piled carpets and kilims. Complementing Design•Zone are dealers presenting traditional works in contemporary settings such as Gebhart Blazek from Morocco who combines traditional berber carpets with tribal artefacts and modernist/post-War furniture. Design•Zone will host the launch of a new magazine called modern carpets + textiles produced by HALI. This quarterly magazine will focus on the most innovative and beautiful modern carpets and textiles being created today, the way in which they are made and designed as well as the context in which they are used. The first issue will be available at The HALI Fair.
