Tentative Deal Reached in UPS Canada Strike

Toronto, November 24--A tentative settlement has been reached in the UPS Canada strike, which began Monday when 3,800 employees walked out, interrupting thousands of package shipments, according to CTV.ca The deal on a six-year contract -- announced by UPS -- came just after the pilots' union at United Parcel Service Inc. said Tuesday it would honour picket lines in the United States if the Teamsters union tried to block goods coming out of Canada. Mississauga, Ont.-based UPS Canada said service was resuming immediately across Canada after a settlement with the Canadian Council of Teamsters. "We are pleased to announce an end to the work stoppage which commenced Nov. 22,'' said Glenn Rice, president of UPS Canada. "We apologize to our customers for any disruptions. "With the immediate reinstatement of service, we are working closely with customers to meet their needs." The usual delivery guarantees will be in effect for all shipments picked up on Wednesday, the company said.
