Tehran Carpet Exports Account for 90% of Country’s

Tehran, Iran, December 23, 2005-- According to Tehran Times, an official from Tehran's Trade Organization said that this northern province accounts for 90% of the total volume of Iran's carpet exports. In the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2005), Tehran exported some 700 million dollars of goods of which Persian carpets comprised about $252 million. However, the Customs reports put Irans and Tehrans carpet exports at $490 million and $470 million, respectively, he added. The official claimed that Iran still leads the worlds carpet exporters although we stand 20th in the world table of carper producers. He put the number of Tehran carpet weavers at 20,000, noting that only 3,000 of them are insured.
