Tarkett Wood Featured in Southern Living Idea Hous

Johnson City, TN, July 20--Tarkett Wood has announced that its Artisan Hand-Scraped Maple Coffee engineered flooring is being featured in the 2004 Southern Living Idea House in Athens, Georgia. "For the past 15 years, Southern Living has built numerous Idea Houses across the south giving builders and consumers innovative, inspirational design ideas for new and existing homes," says Tim Watson, manager, Southern Living Idea House Program. "We chose Tarkett floors because the company has a long heritage of skill and craftsmanship and provides consumers with a variety of innovative, real wood floors. The flooring we've selected establishes the foundation for a state-of-art-home featuring elegant and luxurious interior design," Watson continues. "We're honored that Southern Living has chosen to use our Artisan Hand-Scraped Maple Coffee flooring throughout most of the home in Athens," says Analie Roth, vice president, marketing, Tarkett Wood. "The 5 inch wide, random length planks are well suited for homes like this one which feature open floor plans, as the broad planks complement the wider spaces." To achieve its distinctive appearance, the flooring is individually hand-scraped using an age-old method that results in visual and tactile interest, and it is finished with a low gloss. Featuring beveled edges and ends, versatile installation options and a 25-year finish warranty, Artisan Hand-Scraped engineered flooring also is available in Cherry Spice, Hickory Burnt Umber and Walnut Mocha. According to Anne-Michelle Langlois of H&L Design Group, Inc., interior designer for the home, "We chose the Tarkett Wood flooring because the pre-finish and hand-scraping of the floors offered the patina and character we were looking for. Because this house has a light, open, airy plan, the darker shade of the Maple Coffee gives depth to the rooms and helps open up the bright spaces," adds Langlois. In addition to Ms. Langlois, the design team for the Southern Living Idea House at the Georgia Club included Elizabeth Hutcheson, also of H&L Design Group, Inc.; Roger Caldwell and Calvin Cline of Caldwell-Cline Architects; Builders Steve Greene and Charlotte Johnson of Greene & Johnson; and Landscape Architect Cheryl Mihalko of Cheryl Mihalko Landscape Designs. The first Southern Living Idea House was built in 1989 in Atlanta and was toured by home builders from across the country, coinciding with the National Association of Home Builders show that year. That house was such a success that the magazine continued and expanded the program. By the early nineties, Southern Living was building three Idea Houses each year in three different Southern cities. That tradition continues this year, with Idea Houses in Panama City, Fla.; Athens, Ga.; and San Antonio, Texas. Visitors to the Idea House can see the Artisan Hand-Scraped Maple Coffee engineered flooring from Tarkett Wood in the sitting room, dining room, kitchen, hallway and mudroom on the first floor of the home, and on the staircase landing of the second floor. The Idea House at The Georgia Club is open to the public from June 12 until October 17. Visitors can tour the home Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
