Tarkett to Increase FiberFloor Production with $20

Farnham, Québec, Canada, October 21 – Tarkett has announced a $20 million investment in the FiberFloor production line at its Farnham, Quebec plant. This new category of flooring, pioneered by Tarkett, was launched earlier this year at the Surfaces trade show in Las Vegas. Since its introduction, response to FiberFloor in North America has been so strong that Tarkett has decided to dramatically increase its manufacturing capabilities to meet the demand. The announcement was made at a groundbreaking ceremony that took place today at 11:00 a.m. at Tarkett’s plant on Yamaska Street East in Farnham. The project is expected to be complete by summer 2005. According to company officials, the expanded production capacity for FiberFloor will enable Tarkett to react quickly both to growing product demand as well as evolving styling trends. "Response to FiberFloor from all of our target audiences has been absolutely remarkable," says Jan Lembregts, president, Tarkett Residential, North America. "As of today, our sales of FiberFloor are double what we had planned for, telling us that consumers understand the value and benefits of this new type of flooring. "As a result of the excitement and demand, we have accelerated the launch of two new FiberFloor collections, Easy Living and Fresh Start, by three full months," Lembregts added. Both these products are targeted at the residential new construction and property management segments where FiberFloor has had a tremendous reception. Using innovative technology to combine the top benefits of resilient floors and carpet, FiberFloor offers consumers the best of both categories: ease of maintenance, value, great design and color options, cushiony warmth and simple floating, glue-less installation. FiberFloor consists of an engineered fiberglass interlayer encapsulated between two vinyl layers with a comfort backing. As opposed to current resilient choices, the fiberglass interlayer and comfort backing in FiberFloor make the product more flexible. It provides dimensional stability so the flooring will not expand, contract, crack or curl. Its ease of installation and comfort underfoot are the two benefits of FiberFloor most often cited by consumers. "Today marks two major achievements for Tarkett," Lembregts adds. "We are increasing the manufacture of a new product category that is in high demand by consumers, and we are expanding our capabilities and presence in Farnham. Tarkett has been a part of the Farnham community for 74 years and is proud to contribute to the local economic growth," Lembregts concludes.
