Tarkett Commercial Demonstrates its Commitment to

Houston, TX, June 15--Tarkett Commercial demonstrated its continuing commitment and dedication to the environment recently when the company salvaged more than 35,000 pounds of material destined for a landfill. During transportation, rolls of Granit and Acczent sheet vinyl were damaged beyond use. To avoid the landfill, Tarkett recycled the damaged flooring, giving the product new life in the form of wall base. As part of Tarkett's commitment to being an environmental leader, it seeks opportunities to eliminate or minimize the potential impact on the environment at every stage of the product's life cycle. "We consider it our mission to make prudent use of available natural resources and to be environmentally responsible," said Gilles de Beaumont, president of Tarkett. "So, there was no question as to what we would do with the damaged product. Tarkett is committed to protecting our environment and this effort includes reducing the waste to landfills." In an effort to conserve the environment, Tarkett developed and implemented an aggressive recycling and reclamation program. The company provides every customer with a bag to return unused material to Tarkett facilities for recycling at no cost to them. Depending on the product, Tarkett Commercial flooring also has the potential to contribute up to ten Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points when evaluated under the project checklist.
