Tandus Showroom Gets LEED Certification

Dalton, GA, December 20, 2007--Tandus' new Atlanta Showroom has been awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

LEED is the USGBC’s leading edge system and nationally accepted benchmark for designing and constructing the world’s most energy-efficient, high-performing buildings.

The showroom, designed by ai3 Design, was designed to achieve LEED Certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use, as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. These strategies include:

* The showroom is located within ½ mile of a residential zone and has access to a number of basic services including offices, schools, the post office, restaurants and the theatre; * Public transportation access to help reduce automobile use and fuel consumption; * At least 10% of the total value of materials for this project contains recycled content. (Materials including: gypsum, studs, boards, tac-wall, ceiling tiles, carpets, furniture and laminates.); * At least 20% of the total value of materials for this project are manufactured within a 500 mile radius of the project site; * All sealants, adhesives, paints, coatings, composite woods and laminate adhesives were selected to meet certain limits for low volatile organic compounds; * 75% of construction waste was diverted from landfills over the course of construction; * Tandus carpet products (C&A) contribute to recycled content, regional materials and low-emitting materials; and * At least 90% of all Energy Star eligible equipment within the Showroom is Energy Star rated.
