Tandus Recycling Program Tops 215M Pounds
Dalton, GA, April 20, 2012 -- Tandus Flooring’s flooring reclamation and recycling service has eclipsed the 215 million pound milepost, the company said.
Established in 1994, the company’s FLOOR program reclaims used carpet and flooring and recycles the waste material at Tandus Flooring’s Environmental Center.
Tandus said the center is the first in the world to earn third-party certification.
FLOOR, is part of the company’s Infinity Initiative, which was created to develop solutions for the most critical environmental challenges facing the flooring industry.
Tandus said it has produced a total of 567 million square feet of flooring containing recycled content, including 477 million square feet of flooring made with recycled carpet.
On average, 75% of the post-consumer carpet the company recycles was manufactured by its competitors, Tandus said.
Tandus said it is always searching for feedstock for recycled products. For example, it created ethos, a polymer recycled from the film found in disposed windshields and safety glass.
