Tandus Names Mowers & Tick to Key Design Positions

Dalton, GA, September 30, 2005-—Tandus announced that it has named Terry Mowers as creative director and Suzanne Tick as design director. Together, they will facilitate the overall strategic direction for product for the three floorcovering brands united by Tandus–Monterey, C&A and Crossley. “We are very fortunate that there is such a strong pool of established energy and talent among the designers responsible for all Tandus brands,” said Mac Bridger, CEO of Tandus. “We want to leverage these strengths and varied perspectives by allowing them to both design for the other brands and be inspired by the differences.” “Our research indicates that broadloom, modular tile, and woven products are often all used in the same project; therefore, color-coordinated collections across all product categories can facilitate the design process,” said Mowers. “With a process in place to ensure that Monterey, C&A and Crossley keep their respective point of views while contributing to larger collections, we’ll be able to ensure the continuity that the market desires from a single product source.” “We want to lead the marketplace by taking design to even higher levels -- by creating unique leading-edge styled and colored products, exploring new innovative materials and fibers, and stretching the limitations of equipment while meeting the price point needs of our customers,” said Ms. Tick. Although Mowers and Tick will have increased responsibility for product development across the brands, each brand will continue to feature its own design studio, while at the same time broadening each designer’s range of skills by exposing them to different product technologies. Similarly, Tick and Mowers plan to set an overall color direction for the three brands. “It’s a much tighter, more effective, more efficient way for a company like this to design,” said Mowers. Added Tick, “Our focus is on building product collections across all brands, product categories and price points and to continue to carry the distinct aesthetics of each brand. This unified design direction realizes the possibility that you can work quickly to develop full collections across brands and product types and execute them.” Additional attention will be directed at designing products that suit the needs of specific market segments, such as corporate, education, and healthcare. Tick and Mowers began working with Tandus in 2004, when their firm, Suzanne Tick, Inc., was selected to direct the design for Monterey. Together, they applied to Monterey a design philosophy reflecting a sensitivity to nature and the use of new and innovative materials while creating products that are both progressive and viable.
